With the\nclock ticking down, regional councils are making their final outreach pushes to\nensure that as many residents as possible in their regions are counted. The\nstakes are high for the census, as each resident that is counted has a\nsignificant impact on the amount of federal dollars that their community will\nreceive over the next ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two regional councils, Southeast Michigan Council of Governments\n(SEMCOG) and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) have entered a\nfriendly competition to see which region can receive the highest percentage of Census\nresponses. \u201cAt SEMCOG, we\u2019re making a successful census for Southeast Michigan\nfun. I\u2019ve challenged our mid-Ohio peers \u2013 those Buckeyes from the Columbus\nregion at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission \u2013 to see which region gets\nthe highest percentage of responses. I issued this challenge the day after last\nyear\u2019s Michigan-Ohio State football game, and we really need to win this one.\u201d\nsaid SEMCOG Executive Director, Kathleen Lomako, in a<a href=\"https:\/\/semcog.org\/blog\/artmid\/528\/articleid\/336\/preparing-for-census-2020\">\nblog post <\/a>on the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support a strong census response, SEMCOG has developed a <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.semcog.org\/hardtocount\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hard-to-Count Populations map<\/a><\/strong> and a <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/smcg.informz.net\/z\/cjUucD9taT05MTE0NTAwJnA9MSZ1PTEwNDczNTEzMDcmbGk9NzM3Mjg0Nzc\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">media toolkit<\/a><\/strong> with materials in English, Spanish, and Arabic that can be used by the local governments in the Southeast Michigan region. The media toolkit includes a \u201cSoutheast Michigan Counts!\u201d video which was produced by SEMCOG staff:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Southeast Michigan Counts! Respond to the 2020 U.S. Census.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2rWWvh4u-g0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>MORPC has also been active, chairing the government subcommittee and providing staff for other subcommittees in the Columbus and Franklin County Complete Count Committee. \u201cMORPC has a unique role, because we have the ability to extend the work of the Columbus\/Franklin County Complete Count Committee to the rest of Central Ohio,&#8221; said Aaron Schill, MORPC Director of Data &amp; Mapping in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morpc.org\/news\/2020-census-to-reflect-central-ohio-population-growth\/\">MORPC census post<\/a>.
